Balu Varghese Biography

Balu Varghese is a noted young actor associated with Malayalam cinema, who portrays character and comic roles. He made his film debut at the age of 13 with the movie, Honey Bee (2013), directed by his cousin Jean Paul Lal. Balu is the nephew of famous film director cum actor Lal. Director Lal Jose gave him his first break to big screen through the movie, Chaanthupottu in 2005 where Balu played a child artist. Balu was also seen in the film Manikya Kallu. Balu later portrayed numerous humorous roles of which his role as a petty thief needs special mention. Now one of the promising newcomers of Malayalam film industry, he has a handful of movies lined for release.

Balu was born in Ernakulam on 26 October 1991. Balu Varghese is the son of Varghese EJ and Neena Varghese. He is the nephew of Malayalam director Lal (of famed Siddique-Lal duo) and Music Director Alex Paul. He made his film debut as a child artist through Chaanthupottu in 2005, playing Indrajith’s childhood role. Honey Bee was his first adult role and later he portrayed numerous character roles, mostly humorous ones. He played the role of Ambrose, onscreen brother of actress Archana Kavi in the film, and his hair style and looks became instant hit, apart from him acting skills. The character of Ambrose gave him the big break to Malayalam screen and people still prefer to call him ‘Ambrose’.

This budding actor says, his uncle has been his biggest inspiration who has asked him to accept any role irrespective of his screen presence. King Liar is his upcoming release, where he is to share screen space once again with Dileep. The movie is directed by his uncle Lal where he portrays a typical Kottayam character named Anthappan.
