Baljinder Kaur Biography

Baljinder Kaur is a National award winning film actress who appears in Haryanvi, Hindi and Tamil films. In 2014 she won National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for the Haryanvi film - Pagdi: The Honour. Most recently she was seen in a supporting role in Sudha Kongara’s Tamil-Hindi bilingual film - Irudhi Suttru / Saala Khadoos which received positive responses from critics and audience alike. She played the role of lead actress Ritika Singh’s mother in the film. Earlier she has acted in Bollywood films – Commando and Shahid. She turned down the offers for Aamir Khan starrer PK and Dangaal as she was reluctant to do glamorous roles.

 

She was born in the village of Bhondian near Bhogpur, Punjab. She did her graduation in DAV College, Hoshiarpur and it was during those days when she developed an attraction towards theatre. In 1994, she took the difficult decision of choosing drama over BEd at PU. She studied acting at National School of Drama, Delhi. She also learnt classical dance and music while at drama school. In 2000 she married Brijesh Sharma, her classmate from PU and NSD. After that she started her successful journey as a stage actress. After marriage she taught drama at a Hisar school.

 

One of the late entries to Bollywood, she made her film debut through 2013 highly acclaimed film – Shahid. She was spotted by casting director, Mukesh Chabra in one of her stage performances as an actress. Later she appeared in a few Bollywood films in supporting roles. Haryanvi film Pagdi: The Honour directed by Rajiv Bhatia is her real breakthrough. She knew the director since her college days at NSD, and her husband too portrayed a supporting role in the film. She was recognised by Punjab University for her work in the film.
