Baldev Singh Dhillon Biography 
Baldev Singh Dhillon is an Indian agriculturist and scientist, associated with the field of science, engineering and agriculture. He currently serves as the Vice Chancellor of Punjab Agricultural University in India. He is the former Assistant Director General at ICAR, Director of NBPGR (ICAR), and as Director of Research at Punjab Agricultural University and Guru Nanak Dev University. He is known for scientific breakthroughs in plant breeding. For his overall contributions towards the field of Indian science and agriculture, government of India announced Padma Shri on the occasion of 2019 Republic Day celebrations.
Baldev Singh Dhillon was born in Amritsar, Punjab in the year 1947. He is an internationally famous Agricultural scientist, who has been recognized globally, and best known for his contributions towards the field of plant breeding. He was educated in Khalsa College Higher Secondary School, Amritsar, followed by Khalsa College, Amritsar, Punjab Agricultural University Ludiana and Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, where he took PhD in 1974. He later received Post-Doctoral Fellowship from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Fellowship and Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Fellowship, Germany, through which he continued his research works.
He has been serving as the Vice-Chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana since 2011. He has been associated with several agricultural research institutes of India over the years, and has been recognized globally. He was ranked as the ‘Best Agricultural University’ and ‘Third Best Agricultural Research Institute’ in India by ICAR, 2017. His name was featured in of the 70 Icons of Modern India by India Today, in its special issue on 70 years of Independence - "Icons of Modern India". He is a fellow at Indian National Science Academy, National Academy of Sciences and Punjab Academy of Sciences.
