Balabhadrapatruni Ramani, shortly called Ramani is a renowned writer of Telugu language. Apart from writing novels and short stories, she also contributes to Telugu films as a screenwriter. Started off with short stories, she achieved success through novels. When many of her novels were adapted to silver screen she got associated with films as well, working on film scripts. Mogude Rendo Priyudu was her first novel. Ramani is inspired a lot by the writings of Yandamuri Veerendranath.

She was born Ramani Ankaraju to Ankaraju Anand Bhushan Rao and Ankaraju Sathyavathi Devi on 26 January 1964 in Hyderabad of present day Telangana. She completed graduation in arts in the year 1985. Her grandparents, who were freedom fighters inspired her a lot. Her grandmother used to tell her stories of great freedom fighters and later Ramani decided to pen all those stories for reference for future generations. That’s how she started writing and those works were published in 1995 titled – Leaders.  

She started her literal journey with poetry in 1993. Both her first story “Mullabata” and her first novel “Thrupthi” were published through magazines. Since then she has published more than 150 short stories in different journals and magazines. She wrote three radio plays and also wrote dialogues for television serials like Tulasi Dalam, Antharmukham, Kalakanidi etc. Ramani Kadhalu is a compilation of her 33 short stories. She has also authored 21 novels till now, of which a few have been made to films.

Some of her noted novels include - Swargam Lo Khaidelu, Repalle Lo Radha, Evare Athagadu, Preminchaka Emaindante, Swargam Lo Khaidelu, Repalle Lo Radha, Evare Athagadu, Preminchaka Emaindante etc. Her novel - Andari Bandhuvaya was made to a movie with the same title. She entered film scene in 1999 as a dialogue writer and has co-scripted Boss (2006), Pattudhala (2013) etc.
