Babu Thiruvalla Biography

Babu Thiruvalla is a well-known film producer, director and screenwriter associated with Malayalam cinema. Many of his films have won elite awards at state film awards as well as national awards. As a film producer Babu Thiruvalla has frequently collaborated with film director Bharathan, and has delivered acclaimed and super hit Malayalam films such as Oru Minnaaminunginte Nurungu Vettam (1987) and Amaram (1991) under the banner Symphony Creations. His first directorial venture Thaniyae bagged more than 20 Awards at various award functions including the prestigious Padmarajan award for best film and Kerala State Film Award for Best Début Director in 2008.

 

He directed a film, Thanichalla Njan (2012) produced by his friend Bobby Avagama from Thiruvalla which won  two Indian National Film Awards in 2012; the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration, and Best Supporting Actress for Kalpana. Malayalam anthology film – Crossword released in 2017 was his last outing as a film director. He has directed two films till now, and both are award winning. He was a consultant of movies such as Kannaki and Arabia.

 

Babu Thiruvalla hails from Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta district, Kerala. He started his film career as a producer in the 1980s, and produced many classic Malayalam hits. He turned a film director with Thaniye which bagged multiple awards including Best Film Award by the Atlas Film Critics Association, Ujala-Asianet Film Award for Best Script Writer, ALA Award etc. The film was scripted by veteran actor Nedumudi Venu and Babu Thiruvalla. As a film producer, Oru Minnaaminunginte Nurungu Vettam, Samaagamam, C. I. D. Unnikrishnan BA B.Ed, Kannaki, Savidham, and Amaram are among his noted works.
