Babita Biography

Babita’s name is among those charming Bollywood heroines who have done quite a few memorable movies, but vanished from screen soon after marriage. Babita is a successful heroine during late 60’s and early 70’s who has acted with all leading actors of Bollywood, though its number can be counted by hands. She married the elder son of Raj kapoor, Randhir Kapoor in 1971 and according to Kapoor family customs, quit acting field. Yet, when indifferences occurred between them, she went off the Kapoor family with her two children – Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor and made them the most successful heroines of the present times. It’s only due to the hard work and difficulties faced by this lady alone, that these two sisters had a successful career in Bollywood. Later the family reunited with Randhir Kapoor in 2007.

She was born as the daughter of actor Hari Shivdasani and she was chosen for movies by a screen test by G.P.Sippi. She debut with Dus Lakh, a comic movie opposite Sanjay Khan in the year 1966 and in the short career of 8 years, she did 19 movies. But she could add a lot of successful movies in the list including Haseena Maan Jayege opposite Sashi Kapoor, Kismat opposite Viswajeet, Farz opposite Jitendra and Kab kyon aur kahan opposite Dharmendra. Before marriage she acted with her future husband Randhir Kapoor in Raj Kapoor’s movie – Kal Aaj aur Kal.

Songs pictured on Babita were quite popular that time. Voices of both Lata and Asha were used, that suited the beautiful face very much. In the megabuster movie Kismat, the songs pictured on her Kajra mohabbat waala and Aao huzoor tumko sung by Asha Bhosle were quite popular that time. The song ‘Hum tho tere’ of Farz was edited by censor board a few weeks after release, but later added due to audience’s request. All the songs and dancing numbers of Jitendra and Babita were very popular during release. The song ‘Le Jayenge’ of Haseena maan jaayegi was later re-used as the title of Aditya Chopra movie – DDLJ of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol.

Her other movies include Anjana opposite Rajendra Kumar, Tum se acha kaun hai opposite Shammi Kapoor, Raaz opposite Rajesh Khanna and Pehchaan opposite Manoj Kumar. It is to be noted that she has never worked with her leading heroes more than once! Only exceptions are Jeetendra and Randhir Kapoor.
