B. P. Singh Biography

Brijendra Pal Singh, shortly called B. P. Singh is a well-known personality associated with entertainment and television industry. He owns Fireworks Productions and as a successful producer of television series, he is best known for producing and directing the most popular and longest running detective series on Indian television – C.I.D, which stars Shivaji Satam, Aditya Srivastava and Dayanand Shetty in the pivot roles. Known as the creator of the show, he also portrays the role of DIG / DCP Shamsher Singh Chitrole since 2005 and its second innings since 2012. The show started in the year 1997 is successfully running till now and has showcased over 1300 episodes in 8 seasons.

 

Singh’s family is from Dehradun. He studied film making in the prestigious FTII, Pune before entering television. He started his career long before in 1973 as a cameraman of Doordarshan, Delhi. He got shifted to Mumbai in 1983 after 10 years. During his association with Doordarshan he has made a murder mystery TV film, Sirf Char Din. As a part of preparation of the work he happened to visit Crime Branch of police regularly and befriended Inspector Jayant Wagle. That’s how an interest grew in him, to start a detective television series that has a long run. He also did a few Marathi serials for Doordarshan.

 

He started the suspense horror thriller Aahat in 1994 for Sony television network. The show aired more than 550 episodes and was quite successful. The show was originally started on 12 October 1995 and completed 10 years. He started shooting C.I.D in 1997 when TRP ratings of Aahat fell down sharply and it became one of the successful decisions taken by B. P. Singh. He also produced Hum Ne Li Hai- Shapath on Life OK.
