Azhagam Perumal Biography

Azhagam Perumal is a successful film director and actor, who works in Tamil cinema. He started his acting career in the year 2000 with Mani Ratnam’s Alaipayuthey in which he played the house owner of newly wedded Madhavan and Shalini. He made her directorial debut the following year with Madhavan-Jyothika starrer – Dum Dum Dum under Mani Ratnam’s production. The movie received critics’ appreciation and was also a commercial hit. Music by Karthik Raja was also very popular. He has directed two more movies in Tamil – Joot in 2003 and Udhaya in 2004 and later concentrated on to his acting career. He appears in supporting and character roles in Tamil cinema. Jilla is his latest release in which he played a character role. Kadhal 2 Kalyanam and Padithurai are his upcoming movies.

 

Azhagam Perumal announced his directorial debut in the year 1998 with the movie, Mudhal Mudhalaaga. The romantic movie was to feature Arvind Swamy and Karisma Kapoor in the lead roles. Rahman’s music was also finalized. However the project didn’t happen. His debut directorial venture was Dum Dum Dum with fabulous music of Karthik Raja and was a commercial hit too. His second directorial venture was Joot in 2003 which starred Srikanth and Meera Jasmine in lead roles. The movie couldn’t repeat the success of her debut movie magic. His third movie, Udhaya starred Vijay and Simran in the lead roles. The film opened to average reviews and was disaster at the box office.

 

Later he completely concentrated on to acting. He played the cameo appearance of Museum Curator in Suriya’s 7aum Arivum. Ammavin Kaipesi, Samar, Vellore Maavattam, Osthe, Kattradhu Thamizh, Ali baba, Thottu Paar, Kacheri Arambam, Aayirathil Oruvan and Kanden Kadhalai are other noted appearances.
