Atul Ashok Gogavale Biography

Atul Ashok Gogavale along with his brother Ajay Ashok Gogavale forms the successful music director duo of Bollywood - Ajay-Atul.  They have also composed many songs for Marathi films as well, apart from a few regional films. The duo won their first national award for best music director for the Marathi film – Jogwa in 2009. Most recently they composed music for Marathi blockbuster – Sairat. Marathi film Naṭarang is one of their major works where the brothers composed music and background score where they used traditional Marathi folk music forms for its compositions. They composed songs for Bollywood films - Gayab, Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav, Viruddh... Family Comes First, Agneepath, Bol Bachchan, Singham, My Friend Pinto, PK, Brothers etc. Shuddhi is their upcoming Bollywood work.

 

Atul is the elder brother. His father Ashok Gogavale was a Revenue Department officer in Alandi. Atul was born in Pune in 1974. Since young, the brothers performed together. Their professional career began with a Ganeshutsav in Pune. They did not have a musical background, and didn’t receive support from family as well. Yet the brothers developed deep interest in music since school days. They were not interested in academics. They started performing for school, temples, local bands etc.

 

During college days they worked as music arrangers for local music bands. Later the brothers moved to Mumbai, and worked on a music album, "Vishwavinayaka". The album proved to be a major break to music scene. They later worked for commercial jingles, ballets and advertisements before they became fully active with film music. They have also composed many songs for television shows. They also score background music for films. Made their debut in 2004 with the Bollywood film Gayab as music directors, they debut Marathi film industry the same year through Aga Bai Arrecha for which they composed music score and background score. Jaudya Na Balasaheb, Sairat, Nilkanth Master, Lai Bhaari and Fandry are some of their recent works in Marathi cinema.
