Ashwni Dhir is a Bollywood film director who made successful comedy movies like Son Of Sardaar, One Two Three and Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? All these movies earned critics’ appreciation as well as commercial success from box office. His movies are noted for multi-star cast and association with actors like Ajay Devgan and Paresh Rawal. Ashwni Dhir was the brain behind the popular TV series ‘Office Office’, which later inspired the film makers to make the movie, Chala Mussaddi Office Office. He has scripted several movies before making his directorial debut. His recent film Son of Sardar entered ‘100 crore’ club. He wrote the dialogues of U Me Aur Hum.

He is a Punjabi from Kanpur. His father was a bank manager at Kanpur. He completed graduation and journalism. But he was never interested in studies. He used to write poetry in his childhood and spent his pocket money to buy books on poetry and sufi music. During his childhood he watched two movies - Ankush and Pratighat, which inspired him to join film industry. Though he applied in NSD for direction, his application got rejected. Then he took the job of a medical rep which earned 6000 rupees per month. He came to Mumbai at the age of 21 with 6000 rupees in pocket. He had promised himself that he won’t return back if he won’t become successful.

He wandered around film locations and residence of filmmakers in search of an opportunity. Later he got opportunity to work as an assistant of Anil Varma. Working under him, Dhir earned the essence of film making. His break to television was given by Deepti Naval. He wrote the script of much acclaimed Pankaj Kapur's Office Office and got appreciated for it. That’s how he got entry to Bollywood.
