Ashwini Kumar Chopra Biography

Ashwini Kumar Chopra is an Indian politician belonging to BJP. He is elected to parliament in the 2014 general elections from Karnal constituency. It was his first ticket to parliament. He is a senior journalist and Resident Editor of Punjab Kesari, a daily newspaper. He was born into a family of journalists of three generations. His daily page one, Special Editorial is very popular.

Ashwini Kumar was born into a family of journalists of three generations. He was born in Jhalandar on 11 June 1956. He took graduation from Guru Nanak Dev University and completed Master’s Degree in Journalism from Punjab University. He also took Master’s Degree in Journalism from University of California, Berkeley before stepping into the field of journalist. He briefly worked as a journalist with San Francisco Chronicle before returning to India. He received guidance in this field from his grandfather and joined the Times Group in Delhi. Khalistani terrorists assassinated his grandfather and father in quick succession in 1981 and 1984 respectively, which prompted Ashwini to step on to his father’s shoes.

Owner of Punjab Kesari group of publications, this newspaper baron is a resident of Printing press complex, near DTC complex, Delhi. He has witnessed the rapid urbanization of country capital throughout the years. He also serves as the international president of Panchnad Smarak Samiti represents the ‘Punjabi Biradari’. This section has a huge voter bank across Haryana in around five parliamentary constituencies and for the same reason when Ashwini Kumar was given his first ticket to Lok sabha elections, he could gain a convincing win over Congress candidate. He won the elections with a huge margin.
