Ashwin Kakumanu Biography

Ashwin Kakumanu is an Indian actor who concentrates on Tamil film industry. He is best known for his role in Venkat Prabhu's action thriller, Mankatha. He mostly concentrates on supporting roles and has also acted in one Hindi movie, Ek deewana tha, remake of Tamil hit - Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa by Gautham Menon. He debut with Tamil movie, Nadunisi Naaygal followed by Mankatha, 7aum Arivu, Ekk deewana tha, Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara and Megha. He has also done a cameo appearance in 2013 musical hit – Biryani. 

Ashwin was born in Chennai on July 5, 1987. He has been a diehard fan of both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan and used to watch their movies regularly since childhood. His education was done abroad in USA. Initially he was interested in filmmaking than acting. He had also entered business of film-making by making short films and documentaries. He also appeared in a couple of television commercials. He auditioned for a role in Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa. But it was unsuccessful. But later he got opportunity to work in its Hindi version by the same director, in character role. He entered big screen doing a small role in his debut film Nadunisi Naaygal. This role was offered by director Gautham Menon and Ashwin essayed actress Sameera Reddy’s love interest in the film.

But later he got two lucky projects with leading directors of Tamil cinema. The movies were Venkat Prabhu's Mankatha and A. R. Murugadoss's 7aum Arivu. He played the role of a young scientist in 7aum Arivu and both these roles were noticed. This young actor believes that character roles definitely give better learning experiences to improve one self and move forward.
