Ashvin Mathew Biography

Ashvin Mathew is an Indian actor, who predominantly works in Malayalam films. He is a wonderful performer on stage as a stage actor and stand-up comedian too. He has also scripted a few films. He marked his acting debut with Sridevi’s comeback film, English Vinglish in 2012. He made an impressive debut by playing the brief cameo role of Father Vincent in both Tamil and Hindi versions. Later he worked in a series of Malayalam films. C/O Saira Banu and Jomonte Suvisheshangal are his recent releases. Peruchazhi, Mr. Fraud, 1 by Two, Vedivazhipadu, Loham etc are other releases. He worked in many Mohanlal movies playing supporting roles.

Ashvin Mathew hails from a Malayali family, brought up in Bangalore. Currently he is settled in Cyprus with his family. His wife is from this island country. His father is a doctor by profession, while his mother worked as agricultural scientist. Ashvin started his acting career with theatre as a stage actor before moving to movies and stage shows. Restless: The Spirit of Youth was his debut play. He put a break to his acting career, and moved to Sydney for advanced studies in theatre. He then studied Radio Journalism in Cyprus.

Once he returned from studies, he rebooted his career, but this time as a standup comedian. Once again he switched his profession to become a teacher in Dubai. Finally he settled with acting roles in India. His debut role in English Vinglish was very much noticed. He played the role of Father Vincent, principal at Sridevi’s daughter’s school in the film. He shot the role for just 15-20 minutes. But this brief role is enough to identify this actor, even after 5 years of film release. He has also scripted a few Tamil movies, apart from his acting roles in Malayalam.
