Ashok Selvan Biography

Ashok Selvan is a popular actor of Tamil cinema. He earned critical acclaim through the recent releases -Soodhu Kavvum and Pizza 2: The Villa both released in 2013. Both these movies were commercial successes too. Thehidi is his upcoming release.

Ashok was born on November 8, 1989 in Erode, Tamil Nadu, as the son of DSP Selvam and Malar. He has one sister. The family moved to Chennai when he was three years old where he spent his childhood and youth days. He studied at Santhome Higher Secondary School, Chennai and graduated from Loyola College of Arts and Science, Chennai. Visual Communication was his main subject and his dream was to become an animator. As a result he got involved with short films. But it gave him direct entry to Tamil film industry. He has been a part of short films since college days as an actor as well as director. His short film "Green" has won a lot of awards including "Best film" at the 2012 International Tamil Thoth Conference held at Singapore. He began to attend workshops seriously and his entry to Tamil film world just happened.

His first audition was for Prakash Raj’s movie Inidhu Inidhu– the Tamil remake of Telugu blockbuster movie “Happy days”. But he didn’t get selected. Then his face was used as Ajith’s childhood character of Billa 2. So, he was not noticed. He appeared in a few scenes of A R Murugadoss’s 7um Arivu. But his scenes got cut in the final editing. After a long struggle, he got the role of Kesavan in the Black Comedy movie, Soodhu Kavvum. This movie was the real breakthrough of his filmy life and there was no turn back thereafter.
