Arvind Trivedi Biography

Arvind Trivedi is a very popular television actor associated with Hindi television network, who is best known for playing the antagonist Raavan in the iconic series Ramayana, aired on Doordarshan in the late 1980s. He again worked with Arun Govil and Deepika Chikhalia – the lead pair of Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana in the mythological and very popular Doordarshan series, Vikram Betaal, where he portrayed different roles. Though he is popular as a television actor and stage actor, he appeared in more than 250 films since early 1970s and acted in Hindi and Gujarati movies. He is also a former politician and MP representing BJP. His brother Upendra Trivedi was also a prolific actor who passed away in 2015.

 

Arvind Trivedi was born on 8 November 1937 in Indore. His elder brother Upendra Trivedi who is one year older to him was one of the prominent names in Gujarati cinema and theatre, and he acted in several movies, apart from directing a few. Arvind too followed his elder brother’s steps and worked in Gujarati cinema. He has been associated with Bollywood since early 1970s, though he didn’t receive attention. He also used Arvind Trivedi as his name in his early releases like Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar. Jangal Mein Mangal, Paraya Dhan and Trimurti are a few more Bollywood releases in the early 1970s. Later he moved to Gujarati cinema. He played the antagonist in 1974 Bollywood film, Trimurti and many more.

 

Dholi, Maniyaro, Santu Rangili, Jogidas Khuman and Hothal Padmini are some of his Gujarati releases before series Ramayana happened in 1986. He also appeared in mythological series - Brahmrishi Vishwamitra,Vikram Betal etc. Yet his role as Ravan in Ramayana remains his most memorable role. After receiving immense popularity as an actor, he got elected to parliament from Gujarat on the BJP ticket. In 2002 he also took over as the acting chairman of the Censor Board for Film Certification following resignation of filmmaker Vijay Anand from the post. He was a member of CBFC then.
