Arvind Gupta Biography 
Arvind Gupta is an Indian toy maker and expert in science. A graduate from IIT Kanpur 1975 batch, he has spent his life creating toys for children and teaching them basics of science with lots of fun. His efforts got recognition as he created toys from things useless things thrown to garbage. He has been making toys from garbage for over four decades and through his works and efforts, he inspires hundreds of children to be curious about science and how it can be used effectively for a better cause. For his contributions towards the field of education and science, Government of India honoured him with the fourth highest civilian honour - Padma Shri in 2017.
He was born into a humble background, and didn’t own many books to read or other study materials, during his school days. After completing graduation from IIT, Kanpur, he joined TELCO automobile company and worked on Tata Trucks for two years. While working there, he discovered his true passion for making scientific toys from easily available materials. After doing a little bit ground work and studies, he left his secure job and moved to the tribal district of Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh for a fresh beginning. He started off with a science teaching programme for children.
He had already realized that learning should be done with fun and children must also work with their hands and learn a lot of skills. Currently he teaches science to school students by creating toys from trash. He also made a movie Tarang in an attempt to inspire children to conduct scientific experiments using waste, and the movie has been translated into 18 languages and shown at more than 3,000 schools across the country. He currently works in Children’s Science Centre located at IUCAA in the Pune University Campus, and planning to quit his job to translate some books to Hindi.
