Arunraja Kamaraj Biography

Arunraja Kamaraj is a multi-faceted personality associated with Tamil cinema. He is known as an actor, director, lyricist as well as singer. He shot to fame after writing the theme song - Neruppu da for Rajinikanth's film Kabali in 2016. Apart from writing its catching lyrics, he also did playback singing aside the megastar. He is not trained a singer, and hence chooses the songs which don’t require a trained voice.

As an actor he has appeared in Raja Rani and Maan Karate. His song – Ding Dong for Jigarthanda was well received, where he wrote and sang the song. Currently he works as a lyricist and singer for Tamil films. In 2017, he sang the title track - Kalippu Katta Kalippu for the Malayalam super hit, Oru Mexican Aparatha.

Arunraja Kamaraj hails from Perur near Kulithalai town of Karur district. His early school education was completed from hometown and later he took his engineering degree from J. J. College of Engineering and Technology, Trichy. He also completed his secondary school course at Trichy. Though he was keen about joining film field, his parents were not at all interested. Since he belonged to a non-filmy background, he didn’t get further help from his family. So he moved to Chennai to pursue his dreams and started off as a mimicry artist with Kalakka Povathu Yaaru.

Later he started off in film industry as an assistant director, and got opportunity to write so many songs. In 2012 he got his first break as a lyricist through Pizza, and the offer was given by its music director, Santhosh Narayan. He also gave him the first break as a singer. Very soon he got some minor roles to act. Raja Rani in 2013 marked his acting debut, and he later appeared in Remo, Maragadha Naanayam etc. As a lyricist, Kabali, Pizza 1 & 2, Theri, Bhairava, Pencil etc are among his notable works.
