Aruna Kumari Galla Biography

Aruna Kumari Galla is an Indian politician and former state minister from the state of Andhra Pradesh. She is the wife of Ramachandra Naidu Galla - well-known industrialist and businessman, and the mother of prominent politician, parliamentarian and industrialist Galla Jayadev. She is the daughter-in-law of Paturi Rajagopala Naidu – a Kisan leader, freedom fighter and parliamentarian. As her son Galla Jayadev is married to veteran actor Krishna’s daughter, she is related to this filmy family also. Initially associated with Indian National Congress, she along with her son joined Telugu Desam Party on 8 March 2014.

Aruna Kumari Galla was born on 1 August 1944 in Diguvamagham, Madras Presidency. She studied BSc in Computer Science from Lake View College and later worked for the Chrysler Corporation as computer programmer. She also worked with MIS in Sales division as department head. She got married to industrialist Ramachandra Naidu Galla. While her husband was associated with business, she rose to prominence as a Congress leader in regional politics. She has served as President of the Andhra Pradesh Mahila Congress and General Secretary during her initial days in politics.

Aruna joined state legislative assembly for the first time in 1989, followed by 1999, 2004 and 2009. She served as MLA for Chandragiri constituency without a break between 1999 and 2014. She was appointed as Minister for Health and Education by Andhra Pradesh government in 2004, and she served the term for 5 years. She also briefly served as the minister of Roads and Buildings. After a long stint with Indian National Congress for several decades, she joined Telugu Desam Party on 8 March 2014. After that her son is fully active in politics as a parliamentarian.
