Arpita Ghosh Biography

Arpita Ghosh is an Indian actress, playwright and play director and politician, who currently serves as a parliamentarian from West Bengal. She is a well-known theatre artist, but currently active in politics. She got elected to Lok Sabha in 2014 general elections, where she stood at Balurghat constituency, representing All India Trinamool Congress. A theatre artist turned politician, she is the recipient of Satya Bandyopadhyay Smriti Purashkar 2005 as Best Actress for award for her work in “Rajnaitik Hatya?”, and also Shyamal Sen Smriti Purashkar” for her contribution as Director and Actress in 2007.

 

She has directed more than 15 plays in Bengali language including the famous play, Poshu Khamar in 2006. She directed her first play, Ha-Ja-Ba-Ra-La in 2013. Machi in 2017 is her recent one. She has adapted many foreign works for her Bengali plays. She is an acclaimed stage actress, who later moved to scripting plays as well as direction. She has 2 decades of experience in theatre since 1998.

 

She was born in West Bengal on 10 July 1966. Ghosh joined theatre at the end of 1998, and since then she worked with different theater groups. She was associated with ‘Fourth Wall’ since 1998 and worked in two of their stage plays, before she shifted to Pancham Ved Charjashram as a student of theatre in 2002. In 2003, she directed her first play, Ha-Ja-Ba-Ra-La, for children.

 

‘Antargata Aagun’, ‘Ghater Katha’, ‘Crime Passionnel’, ‘Lankadahan Pala’, ‘Chandaali’, ‘Animal Farm’, ‘Narokiyo’, ‘A-parajita’, ‘Ghare-Baire’, ‘Ebong Debjani’, ‘Achalayatan’, ‘Astomito Madhyanha’, ‘Streer Potro’ etc are among the plays which she directed later. She also did solo acting for the play, ‘Streer Potro’ which she directed.
