Arnab Mondal Biography

Arnab Mondal is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a centre back for Indian Super League club ATK, previously known as Atlético de Kolkata. He is associated with professional matches since 2007, and has played for the Indian football clubs such as Prayag United, East Bengal etc. He is also a team member of India’s national team since 2013, and has also played a couple of matches in India U23 team in 2011 before. Mondal has been one of the unsung heroes of the ISL in 2016, but played an outstanding tournament. He played consistently in the tournament till he suffered a right knee injury during practice section just before semifinals began.

 

Arnab Mondal hails from Kolkata, West Bengal. He was born in Behala, a neighbourhood based in Kolkata, on 25 September 1989. He began his professional career at the age of 17 with Mohammedan, a youth team. In 2010, he signed for Prayag United of the I-League. He was associated with the team for two seasons. In 2012 he joined East Bengal. He had a long term association with the team and the contract ended only in 2018, before he was signed by Kolkata’s ATK for ongoing Indian Super League. He scored goal in the 2012 Federation Cup Final match against Dempo. His goal at the final moment helped him team East Bengal winning 3–2 and the Federation Cup.

 

He remained one of the key players for East Bengal for many years after this memorable performance. He was considered one of the club's finest players for the next few seasons. He also lost a season at National team following an injury, though he got selected. In association with ATK, he helped the team to reach finals of 2014 ISL season. He was on loan in the first season of ISL.
