Arjun Ram Meghwal Biography

Arjun Ram Meghwal is a well-known Indian politician who hails from Rajasthan. He is associated with Bharatiya Janata party, and currently a parliamentarian too. He got elected to Lok Sabha in 2014 general elections representing BJP, and currently serves as a minister in the central government led by Narendra Modi. He serves the position of Union Minister of State, Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation & Parliamentary Affairs. Before reshuffling of the cabinet, he served as Union Minister of State (Finance Minister) in 2016-2017. Arjun represents Bikaner constituency for the past two terms since 2009 and during his pervious tenure in parliament he served as Chief Whip. He was awarded the Best parliamentarian Award in 2013.

Arjun Ram Meghwal hails from Bikaner, Rajasthan. He was born on 20 December 1954. He completed his LLB studies in 1977 and PG in 1979. In 1982, he qualified the RAS Exams and got elected for the Rajasthan Udhyog Seva. He has been associated with government service for many years before he joined active politics. He was appointed as the Officer on Special Duty to the Mr. Harishankar Bhabda, then Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan in 1994. It was during that tenure when he got introduced to politics. He got elected as State President for Rajasthan Udhyog Seva Parisad, and after that he became involved with politics.

He got promoted to Indian Administrative Services and has served in many senior administrative positions. He took voluntarily retirement from the Indian Administrative Service in order to join politics, and contested 2009 general elections from his hometown Bikaner representing Bharatiya Janata party. He retained the same seat in 2014 general elections as well, and currently serves as a minister in Modi’s cabinet.
