Arjun Munda Biography

Arjun Munda is an Indian politician who served as the Member of the Parliament in the 15th Lok Sabha. He resigned this position on 26th February 2011 and is at present the Chief Minister of Jharkhand. He was just 35 years old when he became the Chief Minister and the youngest person in India to come to that position.

He was born on 5th January 1968 in Khrangajhar in Jamshedpur in East Singhbhum district. His father is Ganesh Munda and his mother is Saira. He is a graduate in Social science. He started his political career in 1980s and took part in the Jharkand movement that was headed by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. In 1995, he was elected to the Bihar state assembly from Kharswan constituency. Again he won from the same place in 2000 and 2005 elections. In 2000 he contested as BJP candidate.

When Jharkhand was formed in 2000, the first government under Babulal Marandi was formed and Arujun Munda served as the Social Welfare Minister at that time. In 2003, the non-BJP legislators wanted a replacement of Marandi’s government and on 18th March 2003, Arjun Munda became the Chief Minister. He resigned the position on 2nd March 2005 and after ten days on 12th March 2005, he was reappointed and started his second term.

The political compulsions led to his resignation on 14th September 2006. Then he was elected for the position again in 11th September 2010. He served as the Chairman of the Rural Integrated Development Center of Jamshedpur, the Chairman of All Jharkhand Yoga Association, the Chairman of the Beenapari High School of Jamshed pur, the Chairman of the Shaheed Smarak Smati of Kharswan and the Chairman of the Jharkhand Deaf and Dumb Association. He is also the general secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party.
