Arjun Coomaraswamy Biography

London’s R&B sensation Arjun Coomaraswamy, shortly pronounced as Arjun is a singer, music producer cum lyricist based on Britain. He originally belongs to Columbo, Sri Lanka and has done playback singing for a few Collywood films. His R&B cover version of many popular Indian songs like ‘Why this Kolaveri’ and ‘Kabhi jo baadal bars’e have received millions of hits on You tube. He is popular in social networking sites and you tube with remixed versions of several Bollywood songs. In 2013 he made his Indian playback singing debut through the song - "Oh Penne" of Vannakkam Chennai and "Bay of Bengal" of Biriyani and "Ice Cream Penne" of Vaaliba raja are two more popular Tamil tracks of Arjun. Arjun won Best Urban Act at the 2012 UK Asian Music Awards.

 

He was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. His family moved to UK when he was only 4 years old. His mother plays piano and that’s how he got drawn towards music quite at a very young age. He grew up listening to western music, yet he was exposed to Bollywood and Tamil songs. He started playing instruments at the age of 4 and was brought up in a music atmosphere. He learnt the music instruments like piano, guitar, saxophone, and the drums and developed interest in singing only in his late teen years.

 

R&B and urban music are his favourite genres of music and liked the music of Donell Jones. He started off as a music producer and wrote lyrics for other singers during the first phase of his career. He won a regional talent hunt show at the age of 19 and his friends encouraged him to join music industry. His first single, Remember Tonight was released on iTunes. His second single Stargazer was also a chartbuster establishing him as a singer.
