Arivazhagan Venkatachalam Biography

Arivazhagan Venkatachalam is a well-established film director associated with Tamil cinema, best known for suspense thrillers. He is best known for his blockbuster horror thriller Eeram, his maiden work. His recent work, Kuttram 23 is also a thriller, and this movie too was a super hit at box office. His other movies – Vallinam, a sports drama and Aarathu Sinam, crime-thriller film – remake of Malayalam movie, Memories. Both these movies fared well in box office. With his recent mega hit Kuttram 23 in 2017, he became one of the most popular and talented young directors of Tamil cinema.

 

Arivazhagan Venkatachalam hails from Mettur, Tamil Nadu and currently his residence is at Chennai, where he is associated with cine world. To pursue film direction he enrolled at M.G.R. Government Film and Television Training Institute, where he completed the course with gold medal. Later he worked as an assistant under famous film director, Shankar. In fact his debut film as a film director Eeram in 2009 was produced by Shankar, and the fresh story with a fresh treat was well accepted by audience.

 

The movie also played a magnificent role to bring actor Aadi to the league of best heroes in Tamil cinema. The filming of Eeram began in November 2007. But the movie took almost two years for a theatric release. Though the movie is bit lengthy, it holds the suspense till end. The movie belonging to gothic horror theme has been rarely explored in Tamil screen.

 

In a career spanning to a decade since the filming of Eeram in 2007, the director has done only 4 films. He believes in quality work, and his works are the best instances to prove it. Vallinam, Aarathu Sinam and Kuttram 23 are his other releases up-to-date.
