Appukutty Biography

Appukutty is an Indian film actor appearing in the films of Tamil language. His original name is Sivabalan. Though he had performed some cameo roles, he was shot to limelight after his role in Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu.  His role and performance in the film Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai won him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Appukutty was born in a poor family in Nathan Kinaru village in Thoothukudi District of Tamil Nadu. He wanted to get a job for his survival and so moved to Chennai in 1994. He did not have any big dreams of becoming an actor at that time. To make his ends meet, he was working as a cleaner in hotels where some film personalities used to dine regularly. They picked him up and offered him some minor roles.

His aim was to become a comedian but he could appear only in minor and unimportant roles for more than 17 years until he got a chance to perform in the film Vennila Kabadi Kuzhui by Suseenthiran. He was casted in the lead role in the comedy drama by Suseenthiran named Azhagarsamiyin Kudhirai. The film was named the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment of 2011 and won him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.

He also played a character role in the 300^th film of Mohanlal named Snehaveedu and performed in an important role in the film iKullanari Koottam. Some other films in which he has shown his face are Solla Marandha Kadhai, Ghilli, Azhagiya Thamizh Magan, Madrasapattinam, Madhal Idam, Mannaru, Sundarapandian, etc. He was praised a lot for his performance in the Azhagar Saamiyin Kudhirai audio launch by the music director Ilayaraja.
