Anuradha Biography

Anuradha has been an item girl of south Indian cinema in the 1980s, known for fast numbers. She was also active in the early 1990s. She appeared in over 800 movies during this period and one of the familiar faces of south Indian films then. She also played some supporting roles. Her daughter Abhinayashree is also into the film industry who foray into films as an item girl, yet managed to win a few noted supporting and comic roles. She has acted in all south Indian language films apart from a few Bollywood and Oriya movies. She along with Silk Smitha and Disco shanti formed the trio which conquered millions of hearts through their distinct fast dance steps and body language.

 

Her birth name is Sulochana and she used Anuradha as her screen name. Sulochana was born on 14 August 1965 to Krishna Kumar and Saroja, both associated with cinema industry. Her mother was a hair dresser while father was a choreographer. Anuradha is married to Rathish Kumar, a choreographer and has two kids – one daughter and one son. Her daughter Abhinayashree is a supporting actress. Her husband met with a fatal accident in 1996 which affected his brain and died in 2007 following a heart attack. Three months after her husband met with the motorcycle accident, her mother passed away.

 

She was introduced to the film industry by director K.G. George at the age of 13 and rechristened her name as Anuradha. She made her film debut in 1979 and did 35 films as heroine. Though she started up doing heroine roles, she slowly moved to item numbers as her heroine roles didn’t click at box office. She got a Malayalam film by chance where heroine plays a club dancer. The movie became a hit and she was noticed for the first time. Since then she started receiving only item songs, which she accepted. She has been a dream girl to youngsters in the 1980s. Occasionally she got heroine roles, negative roles as well as comic roles.
