Anupam Sharma Biography

Anupam Sharma is an Australian filmmaker and actor of Indian origin. He is also a writer. He is best known for producing Bollywood films filmed in Australia, and popularizing Indian films in the country. As a film producer, he co-produced Dil Chahta Hai and Heyy Babyy, with some of the scenes shot in Australia, and he also made a brief cameo appearance in his hit production venture - Heyy Babyy. He also directed Australian feature film unIndian starring Australian international cricketer Brett Lee.

Anupam Sharma was born in Ajmer, Rajasthan, and he studied in Dehradun. For his graduation he moved to Australia and later got settled there. He also took master's degree in Films & Theatre from the University of New South Wales, before he forayed into filmmaking, which proved successful. In the 1990s soon after studies he got involved with many movies and theatre productions in Australia. After he met Feroz Khan in 1998, he forayed to Bollywood as a financier. Prem Aggan which launched Fardeen Khan to Bollywood was his first venture in Bollywood, which bombed at box office. It was followed by Hadh Karde Aapne, Pyaar Koi Khel Nahin, Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, Deewane, Beti No: 1 etc which were financial losses.

He started Films and Casting Temple - casting and consulting company based from Fox Studios in year 2000. Since then he has handled around 275 projects, which include television and ad projects too, apart from films. Australia-India Film, Arts, Media, and Entertainment Council was formed in Sydney in 2003. In 2003 Sharma line produced Janasheen, which starred Feroz Khan’s son, Fardeen Khan. Sharma was the Australian Line producer for Heyy Babyy, followed by MTV Roadies. He launched An Australian Film Initiative in 2011, in association with Peter Castaldi.
