Anupam Roy Biography

Anupam Roy is a noted music director, lyricist and singer from Bengal. The song Amake amar moto thakte dao from 2010 movie Autograph gave him big break to the industry. He is a member of ‘The Anupam Roy Band’, the other members being Subhodip Banerjee, Roheet Mukherjee, Rana Singharoy, Sandipan Parial, Shomi Chatterjee and Nabarun Bose. In 2012, he released his first solo album with his own lyrics and compositions - Durbine Chokh Rakhbo Na. In 2013, he released his second album, Dwitiyo Purush where he was the singer, lyricist and music director. He has also done a documentary film, Warrior Prince (2011), a couple of theatre works and has also done playback singing for movies.

 

Anupam was born on March 29, 1982 in Kolkata. Roy completed his schooling from St. Paul's Boarding & Day School, Kidderpore and MP Birla Foundation, Behala. Then he took graduation in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Jadavpur University. He worked as an analog circuit design engineer till 2004 and then he moved to music. Though he has been writing since childhood, his big break was 2010 Bengali movie, Autograph. He wrote and composed the songs. Bneche Thakaar Gaan sung by Rupam Islam and Amake Amar Moto Thakte Dao sung by himself became instant hits. With 2011 movie, Chalo Paltai became a fully fledged music director.

 

He has worked in different areas of music such as composer, lyrics and playback singer for Bengali movies like - Baishe Srabon, Namte Namte, Bicycle Kick, Hemlock Society, Jaani Dyakha Hawbe, Bedroom, Strugglers: The Reality Behind, Rang Milanti, Shunyo Awnko, Laptop and Chorabali. He has also worked with stage plays as a composer/singer/lyricist - Nariyal Paani (2009) and Bikele Bhorer Shorshe Phool (2011). Roy’s writings are often featured in many daily newspapers, magazines as well as online articles. He has also published two books of Bengali poems - Sara Raat Kete Jaay Tor Kawtha Bhebe and Chhowache Kolom.
