Anup Kumar (kabaddi) Biography

Anup Kumar is an Indian professional Kabaddi player who hails from Haryana. He currently serves as the captain of Indian national team. He also serves as the captain of Jaipur Pink Panthers which plays in Pro Kabaddi League. Known by the nicknames - Captain Cool and Bonus ka badshah, he was a member of the Indian national Kabaddi team that won Asian gold medals in 2010 and 2014. He was conferred with the prestigious Arjuna Award in 2012. In Pro Kabaddi League, he has more than 400 points. Currently he is employed as a Deputy Commissioner of Police in Haryana. He is active in the field of Kabbadi since 2006.

 

Anup Kumar was born on 20 November 1983 in Palra, Haryana. Ransingh Yadav and Ballo Devi are his parents. Kabbadi was only a hobby during his school days, which he used to play during his leisure time. His active years in Kabaddi began only after he joined police service in 2005. He joined CRPF as a constable, and later got exposed to Indian camp where he practised Kabaddi. His first participation representing team India was for 2006 South Asian Games, where he played in Sri Lanka.

 

He plays as a raider for Indian National Kabaddi Team and U Mumba, Pro Kabaddi League. He is associated with Pro Kabaddi League since its first season, and has been consistent and successful in performances for many seasons. One of the most successful raiders all-time, he has been a part of 6 seasons of Pro Kabaddi League till now. He is captain of the U Mumba team and won the Most Valuable Player award in the first season of the league. He made his International debut in 2010 Asian Games. Gold medal at 2010 Asian Games, 2014 Asian Games and 2016 South Asian Games are his major achievements as a team member.
