Anup Bhandari Biography

Anup Bhandari is associated with Kannada film industry, known to be a film director, screenwriter, composer and lyricist. His brother Nirup Bhandari is a film actor who works in Kannada cinema.  Till now brothers teamed up for two movies since 2015 – RangiTaranga (2015) and Rajaratha (2018), trying with almost all major departments associated with films, from acting to songs as well as film direction and scripting. They have succeeded in all these departments also. He is the son of Sudhakar Bhandari, who has directed a few Kannada television serials. Anup is married to Neetha Shetty, a successful television actress who appears in family dramas.

Anup marked his debut with the mystery thriller film, RangiTaranga. He wrote the script and directed the movie, apart from penning lyrics and composing music. Hhis brother Nirup Bhandari marked his acting debut through RangiTaranga, and the film was produced by H. K. Prakash. The film was opened to critical acclaim, and shortlisted at 88th Academy Awards though couldn’t make to the final list. The film performed very well at the domestic box office as well as overseas, successfully completing 50 days of theatric run. The maiden venture established and cemented the position of Bhandari brothers in the industry.

In 2018, the brothers came up with the second film, Rajaratha, this time a romantic comedy film written and directed by Anup Bhandari, who composed music and penned lyrics too. The movie got mixed to negative reviews, and was not received well at audience end. Avantika Shetty played female lead in both these films.

Anup Bhandari was born in Mangalore, Karnataka to director Sudhakar Bhandary and Rathna Bhandari. He was raised in Mysuru and has worked in the US before he forayed into films. Born into a family with art background, his wife Neetha Shetty is also a serial actress. He has four more movies in pipeline, and has also done one short film titled, Words.
