Anuja Iyer Biography

Anuja Iyer is a successful model and Tamil film actress. She is remembered most for her leading roles in the movies - Ninaithale Inikkum and Unnaipol Oruvan, both released in 2009. She made her big screen debut through low-budget movie – Sivi in 2007. Mudhal Mudhal Mudhal Varai and Vinmeengal are her other Tamil releases, and she debut Telugu with Eeenadu in 2009, where she played the lead female role of TV9 news reporter Shilpa Rajkumar. This movie is a bi-lingual south Indian remake of critically acclaimed Bollywood thriller – A Wednesday, directed by Neeraj Pandey. Anuja reprised the role of original played by Deepal Shaw, in both the Telugu and Tamil (Unnaipol Oruvan) versions. In 2009, she received a nomination at Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress – Tamil for her role in Unnaipol Oruvan.

Her real name is Sandhya and she was born in a Tamil Brahmin family in Chennai. She schooled at Rosary Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Santhome at Chennai and took graduation in commerce from Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi. With Sanwa Bank scholarship programme, she finished her Master's degree in Advertising and Public Relations in IIMC, New Delhi. The horror film - Sivi released in 2007 marked her onscreen debut, where she played the role of a ghost. She received rave reviews from film critics for her acting skills.

Mudhal Mudhal Mudhal Varai – often term as Tamil’s first "urban centric film" was her second release. This critically acclaimed movie received many international film awards and she received good reviews from critics for acting. In 2009, she played the supporting role in campus oriented movie, Ninaithale Inikkum. She reprised the role of a Muslim girl, played by Radhika in its original Malayalam version (Classmates - 2006). Same year Unnaipol Oruvan and its Telugu version Eenadu were released. Both these roles remain the best in her career till now.
