Anubrata Basu Biography

Anubrata Basu is a Bengali film actor, best known for 2009 controversial movie – Gandu, where he played the male lead. Though the movie was never made a theatric release in India, it was shown at several international film festivals abroad. Tasher Desh, Maach Mishti & More, Chatrak, Madly Bangalee, Bedroom and Ami Ar Amar Girlfriends are his other Bengali releases. Anubrata Basu is known for his frontal nude scenes for the movies – Gandu and Chatrak, first time ever happened in Bengali cinema. Both the movies were banned in India, though they were showcased in several film festivals.

 

Anubrata Basu was born on 5 October 1989 in Kolkata, West Bengal. He was associated with theater since younger days. He started off as a stage actor. His first break to Bengali cinema was given by ace film maker Anjan Dutt, who offered him a pivot role in Madly Bangali. He played the parallel lead role – Benji in the film. Since then he is associated with Bengali cinema. Yet he got noticed for the infamous nude roles and sex scenes he played in Gandu and Chatrak with Rii Sen and Paoli Dam respectively. Its explicit sex scenes caused uproar in India, especially in Kolkata and both the movies made a theatric release in India.

 

Since the explicit frontal nudity and cunnilingus, featuring Paoli Dam and Anubrata Basu for the movie – Chatrak got leaked over internet the actor has been flooded with calls regarding these scenes. Yet the actor has cleared his stand stating that he did the movie simply because it’s directed by Vimukthi Jayasundara who has received several honours in international film festivals. Since he was featured in the movie Gandu, he is known fondly in the film industry as 'The Gandu'.
