Anu Aga Biography

Anu Aga is a businesswoman and social worker. She remained the chairperson of Thermax, an engineering company during 1996 to 2004. In 2007 her name was listed among 40 Richest Indians by net worth according to Forbes magazine. Padma Shri for Social Work by the Government of India in 2010 and Mumbai Women of the Decade Achievers Award by ALL Ladies League are other major honors received by her. In 2012 she was nominated to Rajya Sabha by Indian President Pratibha Patil, and as a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha she has been associated with different committees. After retiring from corporate sector, she has dedicated herself for social work and activities.

 

Anu Aga belongs to a Parsi family of Mumbai, born in the year 1942. She took graduation in Economics from St Xavier's College, Mumbai, followed by her PG course in Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. She also studied at US, following which she started her professional career with Thermax in 1985. She worked with the organization for nearly 20 years till her retirement, and served many important positions within the company.

 

She took over as Chairperson of Thermax following the death of her husband Rohinton Aga due to a massive stroke in 1996. She lost their single son the following year; he was only 25. Thus Anu faced a lot of personal losses in her life. Currently the couple’s daughter serves as the chairperson of the company. After her retirement in 2004, she took to social work. As a member of Rajya Sabha, she entered parliament in 2010 and has been a member of Committee on Empowerment of Women, Commerce, Parliamentary Forum on Children and Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice at different points of time.
