Antony Varghese Biography

Antony Varghese is a young actor associated with Malayalam cinema who shot to fame with his debur release, Angamaly Diaries released in 2017. The movie directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery received overwhelming response from critics and a cult status. In 2018, his second release - Swathandriam Ardharathriyil too opened to very positive reviews from critics and was a box office hit. The movie was directed by Tinu Pappachan and written by Dileep Kurian. After the huge success of his debut flick, he is often called by his character name in the film – Pepe.

Antony Varghese was born in Angamaly of Ernakulam district, Kerala, India to Varghese and Alphonsa. He was interested in acting since childhood. His decision to follow his acting passion instead of a job in Singapore as the right one, and now he is a well-known young face among Malayali movie buffs. He had only two options then – either to leave to Singapore for a job for coordinating logistics for some multi-national company or stay at his hometown to wait a little more for an opportunity in films, and he chose the second one. He had earlier sacrificed his post-graduation due to his addiction to movies.

Antony Varghese was featured in a short film, and Angamaly Diaries’ director Lijo Jose Pellissery happened to watch it. The director was impressed by his role as a protagonist in the short film, and initially casted him for a minor role which he accepted. On the first day of shooting only, he came to know that he was casted in the male lead role. Quite interestingly, the movie’s title holds his hometown’s name. Antony started off doing short films since his graduation days at Maharaja’s College, Ernakulam, and some of those were directed by his friends.
