Anshai Lal Biography

Anshai Lal is a Bollywood filmmaker who made his directorial debut in the year 2017 with the fantasy ghost film, Phillauri, starring Anushka Sharma, Diljit Dosanjh and Suraj Sharma in lead roles. The movie opened to mixed reviews and fared well at box office. Anshai Lal started his career as a model in Mumbai. Later he worked as an assistant director to Saket Chaudhary for a few years and also a few more directors like Sajid Khan and Shimit Amin before directed his first full-fledged film in 2017. The comedy fantasy film where Anushka Sharma played a ghost was an average hit. Its songs too were well-received.

 

Anshai Lal hails from Delhi. His childhood days were spent in his hometown where he completed his schooling from Delhi Public School, Mathura Road. He graduated in Bachelors of Journalism and Mass Communication from Indraprastha University. He moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in entertainment & modelling industry in 2005 and started his professional life as a model. Later he moved to film arena where he worked as an assistant to Saket Chaudhary for Bollywood movies such as Pyaar Ke Side Effects in 2006. He also assisted Shimit Amin for Shah Rukh Starrer Chak De! India (2007), Tarun Mansukhani for Dostana (2008), Sajid Khan for Housefull (2010) and Himmatwala (2013).

 

After playing an assistant’s role in Bollywood for many years, he marked his directorial debut in 2018 with Anushka Sharma starrer Phillauri. The movie always remained in spotlight for the new avatar of Anushka, fresh treatment of the fantasy film and wonderful songs. The romantic comedy set in Phillaur, Punjab brings back the reminiscences of the infamous Jallianwala Bagh Massacre in 1919, the theme which has been rarely used for a mainstream film.
