Anjum Chopra Biography

Anjum Chopra is an Indian female cricketer who has represented India at international matches and was a member of national team till 2006. She played as a left-handed batswoman and Right-arm medium pace bowler for her team, and best contributed as a bowler. Recognized as the face of women's cricket in India, she carried away with different kinds of roles in real life in the form of team captain, good player, consultant, motivational speaker, author, and actor. She has dismissed 81 players in total, thus becoming fourth highest wicket taker in international woman cricket. She has played in 12 Tests and 116 ODIs.

 

Anjum Chopra was born on 20 May 1977 in New Delhi into a family of sportsmen. Many of her family members are associated with different forms of sports.  She started playing the game at the age of 9 and made her debut in one-day internationals at the early age of 17 in 1995. She has been associated with inter-college cricket matches during her academic years. She played her first ODI against New Zealand at Christchurch, and made her test debut the same year against England at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. For her second series in national career, she was awarded player of the tournament award.

 

Anjum remained a permanent member of Indian team till her retirement from test cricket in 2006. After that she continued with ODIs and T20. Interestingly her contemporary player and team mate Neetu David, India’s leading wicket taker also played international cricket at the same period, from 1995 to 2006. After retiring from all forms of cricket in 2012, she took the job of a cricket commentator and is associated with the same profession till now.
