Anil hails from Surat, Gujarat, and he was born in 1957. Since young he showed great interest in collecting art pieces. As a child he collected labels pasted on cloth bundles, which was his interesting hobby then. He used to peel off the labels, wash them and stick on to a book and preserve them as an album. He studied fine arts from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda specializing in Applied Arts, Serigraphy and Photography. While at college, he started saving his pocket money to buy art pieces and slowly started collecting them.

He later moved to Ahmedabad for his job purposes. While at Ahmedabad he began his career as a graphic designer in an advertising firm in the early 1980s. During his leisure time he started making Diwali cards for his family, which he later took as profession. With the money he earned he started his own printing studio. In 1994, he became a close associative of legendary artist M. F. Husain who was looking for a serigrapher for his works. They became close friends. He later came out with many Limited Edition Serigraphs for the artist.
