Anil Laul Biography 
Anil Laul was an Indian architect based in Delhi. He lived during the period, 6 August 1944 – 5 July 2016. Known for his eco-friendly designs, he promoted green buildings based on low cost low embodied energy and local material based. He also authored a book, Green is Red, based on ‘green’ concept. He was the Founder of "Anangpur Building Centre", Member of INTACH and also served as an advisor to HUDCO and Delhi Urban Arts Commission during his life time.
The architect who championed alternative technologies was born in Amritsar, Punjab on 6 August 1944. Laul explored a bewildering range of ideas and activities. It includes teaching, writing, geometrical structures, space frames, pre-tensioning, free flowing designs, cost-effective alternatives, sustainability, human settlements, water filters etc. Known for his low-cost technologies, he designed eco-friendly schools and resettlement colonies. He co-authored many housing policies in India.
ASTRA in Bengaluru, COSTFORD in Kerala, Auroville in Pondicherry, Development Alternates in Delhi and Anangapur Building Centre (ABC) in Faridabad (founded by him to promote the idea of green) are among his architectural works. Navrachana International School at Vadodara is yet another instance, where rain harvesting system is effectively used to save water as well as lighting classrooms and corridors during daytime. His cost-effective technologies for sustainable development earned him international acclaim.
He is widely regarded as a visionary among modern architects and outspoken too. When he passed away in 2016, he left behind a generation of architects who either regarded him highly for his visionary thoughts or criticised him for disagreeing with most things conventional. After all not everyone can accept ‘green technology’ to represent everything sustainable. He was a member and adviser of several bodies including INTACH and HUDCO.
