Anil Kumble Biography

Anil Kumble is a former Indian cricketer who served as the captain of Indian Test cricket team. He is a right arm leg spin bowler and right handed batsman. During his time he was the leading wicket taker for India both in Test and ODI matches. He has taken more than 600 wickets in the Test cricket.

 

He was born on 17th October 1970 in Bangalore, Karnataka. His parents are K. N. Krishna Swamy and Saroja. He has one brother Dinesh. His native is Kumble village in Kasaragod district in Kerala. He married Chethana Ramatheertha and has three children, Aaruni, born from the previous marriage of Chethana, son Mayas and daughter Svasti. He studied at Holy Saint English School and at National High School in Basavanagudi. He did his pre-university college education at National College and graduated from Rashtreeya Vidhyalaya College of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering.

 

When he was 13 he joined Young Cricketers club. His ODI debut was on 25th April 1990. He started his career as a fast bowler. His performance in ODI was at its peak in 1996. He has taken all ten wickets in the Test innings against Pakistan in the Test played in Delhi in 1999. He was appointed as the captain of the Indian test cricket team on 8th November 2007.

 

He is the second Indian bowler after Kapil Dev to get 400 Test wickets. He has taken 5 wickets in a Test innings more than 30 times. He is known for tireless bowling that he had once bowled 72 overs continuously in Test innings. He announced his retirement from international Test cricket and first class cricket on 2nd November 2008. He is the chief mentor of the Bangalore Royal Challengers Team. He has won Arjuna Award, Wisden Cricketers of the Year 1996 and Padma Shri award in 2005.
