Anil Kumar Dutta Biography 
Anil Kumar Dutta was a noted artist from Bengal. He was the founder-editor of Shilpa O Sahitya, a literary magazine, which was originally titled as Mukto Patra. One of the significant contributions to art is Academy of Creative Art, the institution formed by him. He founded the Academy of Creative Art, Kolkata in 1991 and also served as its first Principal. He completed 62 portraits is a project titled Swakalbela. In 1986, he started the annual Shilpo O Sahitya awards for little magazines.
Dutta was born in Sahanagar district of south Kolkata in 1933 to Jnan Ranjan and Parul Bala Dutta. He had 6 siblings. At the age of 7, he lost both his parents within a short span of 6 months. Later the siblings were raised by their grandfather. He was interested in drawing, painting and writing poetry from a young age. He also started a handwritten magazine during his school days. He made idols for Durga Puja while at school; one of his earliest artistic experiences. After matriculation he joined Government Art College, Kolkata for graduation. But he had to discontinue his studies due to financial problems. But the following year, he enrolled at the Calcutta Art School where he completed graduation with first class. He also won Gold Medal in 1955.
After studies he set up a business on graphic design the following year. Though his business was associated with commercial works and graphic designs, he continued with his passion. He was interested in painting portraits and landscapes. He planned to paint portraits of 100 of his contemporaries under a project titled – Swakalbela and finished 62 ones. He was also associated with publishing business.
