Anil Joshi Biography

Anil Joshi is an Indian politician from Punjab, belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party. He hails from the city of Amritsar. A 2-term MLA and cabinet minister, he served as Minister for Local Bodies, Medical Education & Research in BJP led Punjab Legislative Assembly. He was in office during 2012 – 2017. He got elected to Punjab Vidhan Sabha for the first time from Amritsar North Constituency in 2007 and then re-elected in 2012, thus retaining his seat. He was assigned a few portfolios during his second term as state MLA under Parkash Singh Badal’s SAD-BJP coalition government. In 2017 state assembly elections he lost his Amritsar North seat, when BJP failed to stay afloat in regional politics.

Anil Joshi was born on 31 March 1964 in Punjab. Sanghe of Tarn Taran district is his hometown. Currently he is settled in Amritsar, where he is fully active in political career and got elected to state legislative assembly twice. His father's name is Kishori Lal Joshi and mother's name Pushpa Rani Joshi. He married Monika Joshi in 1992 and has 2 sons - Paras Joshi and Amit Joshi. He got fully active in politics in 2000s.

Anil Joshi contested state assembly elections for the first time in 2007 and then re-elected in 2012, both from Amritsar North Constituency. BJP fielded him for 2017 elections and Joshi eyed for a hat-trick. When BJP suffered a major setback as it could win only 3 seats of total 23 candidates it fielded. Anil Joshi was one among the lost candidates too. Joshi - a runner lost with a margin of over 11,000 votes. Joshi is quite infamous for his bullying ways and a mercurial temperament, and is regarded as BJP's controversy magnet in Punjab state politics.
