Anil Dhawan Biography

Anil Dhawan is a popular Bollywood hero of 1970’s, who appears in television as well. He is most known for his debut film, Chetna (1970) and Piya Ka Ghar (1972) and both these movies were commercial successes. He played lead role opposite Jaya Badhuri in Piya ka ghar and the song ‘Yeh Jeevan Hai’sung by Kishore Kumar is still popular. Yauwan and Annadata are other noted works. Noted film director David Dhawan is his brother and actor Varun Dhawan is his nephew. His son, Siddharth Dhawan has also appeared in many movies.

Anil was born in a Punjabi family in Delhi. He studied acting from Film and Television Institute of India, Pune before entering movies. He had a magic debut onscreen in lead role through B. R. Ishara’s Chetana opposite Rehana Sultan. He was introduced to the director by his friend, Shatrughan Sinha who played supporing role in the same movie. This controversial movie is still remembered for its bold scenes and bold, yet socially relevant subject of prostitution and rehabilitation of sex workers. The movie which received Adult certificate attracted college students a lot, in those days. This small budget film made a huge impact that it permanently ruined the career of its lead actress, Rehana Sultan who played prostitute’s role.

In the 1990’s, he assisted Asha parekh in the Doordarshan television serial, "Kora Kogaz" in the role of an assistant director. Now he is active in television soaps. Mein Laxmi Tere Aangan Ki (2011) in Life ok is one of his popular roles. He is a close friend of actor Navin Nischol and his family. He was a junior of Navin Nischol at FTII Pune. He regularly appears in Bollywood movies in supporting roles nowadays.
