Anil Devgan Biography

Anil Devgan is a noted film director associated with Bollywood. He is the elder son of noted stunt master of Bollywood, Veeru Devgan and the elder brother of popular actor, Ajay Devgan. Kajol is his sister-in-law. He has directed Ajay Devgn starrers like Blackmail (2005) and Raju Chacha (2000), and both the movies failed to make an impact at box office. Raju Chacha was produced by Ajay Devgan, and the movie marked the comeback of actress Kajol after marriage. It was for the first time after their marriage, Ajay and Kajol shared screen space for a film. But this huge budget film received negative response from critics. Since 1996, Anil has worked as an assistant director of many hits of Ajay Devgan.

He was born on 14 June 1949 in Mumbai into a filmy family. His father Veeru Devgan is a legendary stunt master associated with Bollywood. He schooled at Kendriya Vidyala in Delhi. Since young he was fascinated to stories and owned a creative mind. He is a music lover too. Though he trained in Tabla and Martial Arts, he later moved to cine world. He got encouragement from his younger brother Ajay Devgan and in the 1990s he worked as an assistant director under Sunil Agnihotri, Anees Bazmee and Raj Kanwar.

He has worked as an assistant director of many Ajay Devgan movies of 1990s such as Jaan, Pyar Tho Hona Hi Tha, Itihaas, Hindustan Ki Kasam etc. He made his directorial debut in year 2000 with Raja Chacha, starring Ajay Devgan and Kajol. The movie is known for its melodious music by Jatin Lalit. Later he directed two more movies, Blackmail and Haal-e-dil. He served as Creative Director of Ajay devgan starrer comedy film – Son of Sardar in 2012. He currently plans to remake the Bollywood classic - Do Aur Do Paanch.
