Anant Kumar Hegde Biography

Anant Kumar Hegde is an Indian politician from Karnataka who currently serves as Member of Parliament since 2014. He represents Uttara Kannada constituency and belongs to Bharatiya Janata Party. Currently a member in Modi’s cabinet, he serves as the Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. A member of RSS, his controversial remarks against Islam religion has always kept him in spotlight though in bad light. A very influential leader from Karnataka, he has been elected from Uttara Kannada for 6 terms since 1996, in a row. He remained a member of Spices Board of India & Ministry of Commerce & Industry for 5 years during his first term as MP.

Anand was born on 20 May 1968 in Sirsi, Uttara Kannada, Karnataka. Lalita and Dattatreya Hegde are his parents, and he is married to Shrirupa since 1998. The couple has two children. His graduation was completed from his hometown Sirsi, and in those days he became an active member of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, a student leader and later an ABVP activist. He contested Lok Sabha elections for the first time in 1996 in his late 20s, and got elected from Uttara Kannada constituency. Since then he has been elected from the same constituency for next four terms till 2014.

At the young age of 27, he was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time when he defeated sitting Congress MP Margaret Alva and has never lost an election since. In Narendra Modi’s ministry, he was appointed as the Minister of State for Skill Development. Earlier he has served as member of the parliamentary standing committees on finance, commerce, home affairs, human resource development, agriculture and external affairs.
