Anang Desai Biography

Anang Desai is a veteran actor of Bollywood cinema known for portraying character and grey shaded roles. He portrayed the role of J. B. Kripalani in the historic Hollywood film – Gandhi in 1982, which happened to be his debut film also. Currently he is associated with both cinema and television. As a television actor he is best known for portraying the role of Tulsidas "Babuji" Parekh in the Star Plus TV series Khichdi. He has worked in more than 80 television serials which include Akbar-Birbal, Imtihan, Bharat ekkhoj, Tenali Rama, Sparsh, Mahayagya&JasubenJayantilal Joshi ki Joint Family. He started his television career in the 1980s with Doordarshan serials. He is equally successful in cinema and television.


Anang Desai was born on 4 May 1953 in Ahmedabad. He completed graduation from the prestigious NSD, Delhi in the year 1978. Later he was associated with NSD’s professional repertory company for more than 8 years. Attenborough's Gandhi (1982) marked his film debut and he started his television career with Raj Se Swaraj in 1987. He played the role of Ibrahim Lodi, Raja Ram Mohan Roy and a few more characters inShyamBenegal'sDoordarshan Series Bharat EkKhoj. Since then he was seen playing regular roles in Doordarshan serials throughout 1990s. 


His best film roles are Khichdi: The Movie, where he reprised his original role of television sitcom and Gujarati movie, Ishwarbhai Patel for which he received Best Supporting Actor at 12th Transmedia Awards 2012. Some of his noted Bollywood movies include - HamaraDilAapkePaasHai, Yadein, Badhaai Ho Badhaai, Raaz, Agnipankh, 7½ Phere, Bas ItnaSaKhwaabHai,Dehek, MaaTujhe Salaam, Gumraah, Gunaah, BalBramhachari, Salaam-e-ishq etc.
