Amol Muzumdar Biography

Amol Muzumdar is a former cricketer who has been hailed as ‘Next Sachin Tendulkar’. This right-handed batsman played domestic cricket matches for Mumbai and Assam with an outstanding batting record. Muzumbar owns several world records in batting in First Class Cricket. He holds the world record for the highest-ever score by a player on his first-class debut. He scored 260 against Haryana at Faridabad in a Ranji Trophy match in the 1993–94 season to make this record to his name. He also holds the record for the most runs scored in the Ranji Trophy beating the record set by Ashok Mankad. Despite have these outstanding records to his name and a batting average of more than 50 in his first class career, he has never made to Indian International team!!!

 

Though couldn’t find space in Indian National Team, he was associated with Mumbai in first class matches till 2009 and guided the team for several victories. He served as the team captain of Mumbai which won Ranji Trophy in 2006-2007 season. At the age of 39, he retired from all forms of cricket in 2014 after scoring 11, 167 runs and 30 centuries in 21-year old career. He was once a teammate of Sachin Tendulkar and not many know that Muzumdar was padded up as the next batsman in for Shardashram English School when Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli made the historic partnership of 664 runs. Amol has also played as vice-captain aside Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid for India A team in 1994. But he couldn’t get into the national team, when his contemporaries – Sachin, Sourav and Rahul earned fame and ruled the crease as batsmen in the 1990s and 2000s.

 

His full name is Amol Anil Muzumdar. He was born on 11 November 1974. One of the finest batsmen in Indian domestic circuit, he started his domestic career with Mumbai in 1993-94 season. He dreamt to play for the country and he came close to earning a Test spot in 1996. But he couldn’t make it. But his longevity in the game shows his passion and commitment to the game. He was coached by the famous Ramakant Achrekar, who coached Sachin Tendulkar too.
