Amit Singh (cricketer) Biography

Amit Singh is a first-class cricketer who plays for Gujarat in domestic cricket. He hails from Bidar, Karnataka, and is an all-rounder to his team. He contributes to his team as a right-arm medium-pace bowler and right-handed batsman. He has been a part of Rajasthan Royals in IPL matches, but best known for the infamous match fixing scandal in T-20 journey. Till now, he has played 20 first class matches and 14 List-A matches, apart from 30 T20 matches. He has scored 52 wickets in FC matches, 15 in A class matches and 34 from T20. BCCI has suspended him from cricket in 2013 following spot-fixing scandal in 2013.

 

His full name is Amit Kumar Singh. He was born on 21 June 1981 in Bidar, Karnataka. He played with Gujarat domestic team since his debut. He made his first class debut at Ahmedabad in 2002, where he played with Gujarat against Madhya Pradesh. He played his last first class match in 2012 against Saurastra in Surat. He made his List-A debut at Kanpur in 2006 opposite Railways, and last one at Mumbai in 2012 against Baroda.

 

He joined IPL T20 matches with Rajasthan Royals in 2009, and was associated with the team till 2012. His debut match was opposite Kings XI Punjab. 4-0-9-3 was his magical figure of his maiden match which gave a lot of promises to his team. He rose to prominence during 2009 season. He was backed by the then captain and coach of the Royals, Shane Warne when he was reported for a suspect action twice during the IPL. In 2013, the news caught like fire, when he along with roommates Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan, and Ajit Chandila were arrested for spot-fixing scandal. BCCI has suspended him from cricket, and he couldn’t play further matches.
