Ameer Sultan Biography

Ameer Sultan is an Indian film producer, film director, screenwriter and actor. He also serves as the president of Film Employees’ Federation of South India (FEFSI). He primarily concentrates in the Tamil film industry. He made his directorial debut in the film Mounam Pesiyadhe in 2002 and acting debut in the film Yogi in 2009.

He was born on 5^th December 1966 in Madurai in Tamil Nadu. He continued his higher studies in economics and then worked for few years as an entrepreneur. It was the dream of his childhood days to enter the film industry. He joined director Bala as an assistant director in the film Sethu in the year 1999. This became an award winning film. He loves commercial cinema and is an ardent fan of M.G.R.

After proving himself to be a successful director through the film Mounam Pesiyadhe in 2002, he started his own production company Teamwork Production House. His other venture Raam received critical acclaims and won awards at the Cyprus International Film Festival. The film Paruthiveeran in 2007 gave him name and fame. It won him many national and international awards and was screened at many world film festivals. His films are mostly realistic dramas.

He made his acting debut in the movie Yogi directed by Subramanium Siva. His own production house made this movie. He also established himself as a dancer through the song Kanni Theevu Ponna in the film Yudham Sei by Mysskin.

He was into many controversies. He is a Tamil activist and he took part along with many other actors, directors and producers in the rally against the atrocities meted out to the Tamils of Sri Lanka and he was arrested on 24^th October 2008. He openly expressed his support to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam. Later he was released on bail. In 2012, an advocate named Siva lodged a criminal complaint against him saying that he is threatening his life for publishing a book titled “FEFSI Yen Vendaam – Why FEFSI is not required?”
