He is a relative (distant cousin) of his team member, Jeakson Singh Thounaojam who made it history by scoring the first goal for India ever in a FIFA world cup. Both hail from same village, and same family. Both belong to the rural village, Hokha Mamang Leykai.

Amarjit Singh Kiyam was born on January 6, 2001. He hails from the rural village, Hokha Mamang Leykai of Manipur. He practised and played football at Chandigarh Football academy. His cousin Jeakson Singh Thounaojam also studied there. Both these players were introduced to football and playground by Jeakson Singh’s father, Deban Singh who worked in Manipur police. Following a stroke two years back, Deban is currently in rest. Many members of his family have played football, including his elder brother Umakant Singh.

Kiyam joined AIFF Elite Academy in 2015. He has represented national team in 2016 AFC U-16 Championship, 2016 BRICS U-17 Football Cup and Lazio Cup 2017 held in Italy. Young Amarjit had to face a lot of hardships since young to reach the position where he is right now. His mother Asangbee Devi sells dried fish. It’s the sole source of income for the family. Yet such financial crisis or family background didn’t affect his passion towards football.
