Amar Talwar Biography

Amar Talwar is a veteran actor associated with Bollywood films and television shows, best known for playing character roles. He is a prominent theatre artist too, known as a stage actor. He mainly portrays uncle, father and senior citizen roles onscreen. As a television actor, he got major break by playing the prominent role of Raj 'G.J.' Singh in India’s first soap series in 1994, Shanti, where he shared screen space with Mandira Bedi. Since then he has been regular on small screen playing character roles, and a seasonal film actor too.

 

Amar Talwar hails from Chandigarh, born into a Sikh family. He was born on May 4, 1968. He has one brother, Rana Talwar. Amar did his schooling from Lawrence School, Sanawar. After studies he moved to Delhi for his work. He started off as a photojournalist, and also worked as a stage actor at the same time. As a photojournalist he worked with UNICEF for the Girl Child Division of the Ford Foundation. Even while he turned busy with television roles and a few films in Bollywood, he never quit his theatre career.

 

As a film actor, he is best known for playing Rani Mukerji's father and Amitabh Bachchan’s friend in Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham. Bhoot, Deewaar, Corporate, Baby, Mittal v/s Mittal, Feast of Varanasi, Partition etc are some of the Bollywood films in which he appeared later. 1994 series on Doordarshan, Shanti gave him the much awaited break on small screen. He also played supporting roles in Kahiin to Hoga, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, Mad about money etc. He played the memorable role of Purushottam Suri, Armaan's Father in the most popular series on Sony television, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin.
